On Friday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, warned the neighboring countries of Iraq against interfering in the elections, because they are an internal affair.
Al-Sadr said in a blog post, seen by “Nass” (1 October 2021), that “the elections are an internal affair. Neighboring countries and others should not interfere in the internal affairs, neither by enticement nor by intimidation, otherwise we will treat them similarly in the future.”
He concluded with the tag “Iraq for the Iraqis”.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi pledged that he would personally supervise electoral security, while the position of the Sistani reference on the elections was considered a great motivation for the success of the electoral process.
The Media Office of the Council of Ministers stated, in a statement, of which “Nass” received a copy, (September 30, 2021), that “Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, while presiding over the weekly session of the Council, said: The position of His Eminence Mr. Al-Sistani in support of participating in the elections represents a great motivation for the success of the process We express our gratitude and gratitude for the historic role that His Eminence has played in protecting the country.”
Al-Kazemi confirmed that “the government fulfilled the pledge regarding the elections, and we provided all support to the commission, which was hosted several times, and provided all its requirements,” stressing that he would personally supervise electoral security, “We will not allow any abuse that affects the conduct of the elections and their results.”
The Prime Minister indicated that he “formed committees to monitor the abuses of candidates and parties, and any case of transgression will be referred to the judiciary and the Electoral Commission,” explaining that “we recommended today a special amnesty for juveniles and women, with the exception of cases of terrorism, corruption, and the exploitation of public money.”
He pointed out that “we have succeeded in overcoming many crises, including financial, health, economic, and security crises, and attempts to drag Iraq into the axes conflict.”
The Prime Minister concluded by saying: “There are many positives in the government’s work, and there are some shortcomings, and our goal was to hold early elections and provide the atmosphere for them, but we also took bold measures to correct the situation and put Iraq on the right line.”
The Supreme Security Committee for Elections announced, on Wednesday, new directives related to polling day.
The spokesman for the committee, Ghaleb al-Attiyah, told the official agency and its follower, “Nass” (September 29, 2021), that “the elections security committee issued directives and orders to the sub-committees in all governorates,” noting that “the movement between the governorates will be limited and all airports and border crossings will be closed from the ninth.
