MP Sakr Al-Muhammadawi, from the Sadiqun parliamentary bloc, confirmed on Thursday that the High Electoral Commission will begin procedures to nominate new names as replacements for MPs against whom judicial decisions and rulings were issued, within the “Dawn Charge” operation.
Al-Muhammadawi told Shafaq News Agency, “According to the information received, some of the people whose immunity was lifted are not accused of corruption,” explaining that “one of them sent a recommendation message via mobile phone to one of the ministry’s agents, and this is different from someone who took billions of dinars and stole public money.”
He pointed out that “MP Hussein Mounes, head of the parliamentary rights bloc, has a different case, as there is a political intent behind it.”
A leader in the Coordination Framework, Amer Al-Fayez, revealed last Monday, during a television interview, that the head of the Rights Movement, MP Hussein Mounes, is facing an arrest warrant after his immunity was lifted, stressing that he left Iraq and fears returning, while pointing out that the charge against him is not related to the case of the Deputy Minister of Oil, Adnan Al-Jumaili, and that his parliamentary membership is still valid despite the legal procedures taken against him.
It is noted that the case of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Adnan al-Jumaili, has been ongoing for more than a month, and has affected deputies and officials who were arrested in various areas of Baghdad, including the Green Zone, as part of what was called “Operation Dawn.” Billions of Iraqi dinars, millions of dollars, jewelry, and gold bullion were subsequently seized in the homes and farms of Iraqi officials and politicians. Meanwhile, the judiciary and the Integrity Commission vow to continue arresting those accused of corruption cases as part of a campaign launched by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zubaidi for this purpose.
