MP Jassim Atwan confirmed on Thursday that the coming days will witness the resolution of the nominations for the presidency and prime ministership, stressing that this will contribute to ending the political deadlock plaguing the political process due to partisan conflicts over positions.
Atwan told the Information Agency, “Partisan disputes over sovereign positions have disrupted constitutional entitlements and affected the formation of the new government. Political forces have come to realize the danger of this continued deadlock, and therefore there is a serious move to finalize the nominations soon.”
He added, “The nomination of the president and prime minister will represent a fundamental step in reactivating the political process and moving towards forming a fully empowered government,” noting that “Parliament will work to facilitate these procedures to ensure overcoming the crisis.”
Atwan pointed out that “the national interest requires prioritizing dialogue and consensus over partisan conflict, because the Iraqi people are waiting for a government capable of confronting the economic and service-related challenges,” emphasizing that “the coming days will be decisive in ending the political stalemate.”
