The Information Agency / Baghdad –
MP Ahmed al-Shammari affirmed on Tuesday that initiating a review of contracts concluded by ministries in recent years represents a true test of the seriousness of the government program led by Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi, particularly concerning the reorganization of the administrative and financial performance of state institutions.
Speaking to the Information Agency, al-Shammari stated, “Opening the contracts file is not merely a matter of traditional oversight procedures, but rather a strategic step aimed at uncovering the sources of waste, poor planning, and loopholes that plagued contract management in previous periods.”
He added, “Reviewing the contracts will contribute to reorganizing government contracting mechanisms according to more transparent and disciplined standards, thereby enhancing the efficiency of public spending and reducing opportunities for financial and administrative corruption.”
He pointed out that “this step sends positive messages to the Iraqi public regarding the continuation of the reform process and the correction of past mistakes,” emphasizing that its success requires cooperation between the executive and oversight branches, as well as parliamentary support to ensure that reform procedures are not obstructed.
Al-Shammari stressed the need to take parallel steps to develop laws regulating government contracts and activate the role of relevant oversight bodies in order to strengthen the principle of accountability, protect public funds, and establish a more transparent and stable administrative environment.
