MP Harim Kamal confirmed on Monday that there has been no real breakthrough so far regarding the resolution of the presidential election issue between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), indicating the continued divergence in positions.
Kamal told the Information Agency that “negotiations between the two Kurdish parties have not reached a final result regarding the position,” while noting “a new movement among the various Kurdish parties aimed at reaching common understandings.”
He added that “this movement seeks to produce positive results that will end the current political deadlock,” stressing “the necessity for Kurdish forces to agree on a candidate who can guarantee progress in the upcoming constitutional processes.”
Earlier, PUK leader Ghiath al-Surji called on political forces to expedite the resolution of the presidential and ministerial issues to confront the challenges posed by the ongoing war in the region and the aggression against neighboring Iran.
