MP Ali Faisal Al-Fayyad, from the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, confirmed Thursday, that “three names within the government cabinet of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zidi did not obtain enough votes to cross the required threshold, and therefore did not gain the confidence of the House of Representatives.”
Al-Fayyad told Al-Maalomah that the failure to grant confidence to the ministers of education, interior, and planning was not due to political reasons, but rather to the nature of the ministries and the individuals nominated to head them. He noted that the parliament had not yet reviewed the nominees for the ministries of youth and sports and construction and housing.
Al-Fayyad added that the names that were not approved would be replaced with other figures, while he did not rule out understandings and discussions among the political forces, after which some names would be put forward for a vote again along with the remaining ministers whose appointments were postponed.
Al-Fayyad explained that no negative observations were recorded regarding the names approved within Al-Zaidi’s cabinet, pointing out that parliament granted it confidence comfortably and without any dictates or pressure.
He continued that the government program, which parliament voted on during the same session, before granting the government confidence, includes important solutions to contain the crises facing the country, foremost among them the financial crisis, indicating that parliament and the incoming government are moving in this direction.
The new Prime Minister, Ali Al-Zaidi, and the ministers who received the vote of confidence were then sworn in . The House of Representatives granted its confidence to the new ministers, who then took the constitutional oath, marking the beginning of their official duties. This followed the parliament’s vote of confidence in 14 ministers, as well as the approval of the government’s program during Thursday’s session.
