On Saturday, MP Sakr Hassan, from the “Sadiqun” parliamentary bloc, announced that he had collected more than 170 signatures from members of parliament to submit a formal request to discuss the cancellation of the security agreement between Iraq and the United States in the next session.
Hassan told Shafaq News Agency that “the signatures collected from members of the House of Representatives exceeded 170 signatures, and an official request was submitted to the Speaker of the House to discuss canceling the security agreement in the next session.”
He added that “the collection of signatures came about because the Americans violated the terms of the agreement, considering that what happened represents treason and aggression without protecting the country.”
He indicated that the bloc is waiting for the Speaker of Parliament to set a date for a special session to discuss the cancellation of the security agreement, in addition to closing the US embassy in Baghdad.
MP Miqdad al-Khafaji, from the parliamentary rights bloc, had previously confirmed to Shafaq News Agency that the House of Representatives intends to propose a bill to cancel the security agreement with the American side to protect Iraqi airspace, in order to resort to another agreement with global countries such as Russia and China.
Sites belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq were subjected to American and Israeli strikes, carried out via drones and missiles, which killed dozens of members.
