The Ministry of Industry and Minerals revealed on Friday that there is a trend to develop solar panel production lines in support of local industry, while it indicated that there is a plan to cooperate with international companies to transfer technology. The Director General of Al-Zawraa General Company, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Muhannad Jabbar Al-Khazraji, told the official agency that “there is a trend by the Ministry to develop solar panel production lines, increase local manufacturing, as well as cooperate with international companies to transfer technology, supply government institutions and work to expand this sector.”
Al-Khazraji explained that “the ministry is studying this option, but the priority now is to meet the needs of state institutions,” indicating that “if production capacity is increased and the technical and marketing aspects are completed, then it is possible to open direct sales outlets or appoint agents to serve citizens through Al-Zawraa General Company by offering solar energy systems to citizens through the Ur platform and within the initiative of the Central Bank of Iraq to supply citizens with solar energy stations in installments.”
Al-Khazraji also confirmed that “the ministry is working on developing solar panel production lines, increasing the percentage of locally manufactured components (solar panels, solar water heaters, solar electric inverters), and establishing partnerships with global companies to transfer technology, which will contribute to supporting national industry and reducing dependence on imports.”
Al-Khazraji also explained that “the higher the percentage of local manufacturing and the greater the production capacity, the more this will be reflected in reducing costs and enhancing the ability to offer products at more competitive prices, while maintaining quality,” stressing that “the ministry is working to gradually localize this industry, through developing production lines, building partnerships, and increasing local content, in line with the state’s direction towards renewable energy.”
