Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, stated on Saturday that Iraq has succeeded in consolidating its position as a global communications corridor, attracting numerous international companies. She pointed out that the “Road of Civilizations” project has significantly contributed to increasing internet capacity from 10 gigabytes to more than 1,800 gigabytes in a short period. Al-Yasiri explained that the ministry has succeeded in building global confidence in the Iraqi corridor, which has prompted many companies to turn their attention to Iraq to route their communications through its territory.
She added that the “Civilizations Road” project, being implemented in cooperation with IQ, represents a qualitative leap, as it has provided a high level of connectivity stability (high SLI) and contributed to expanding the country’s digital capabilities.
The Minister also noted the implementation of the “Dark Fibre” strategy for the first time in Iraq, an advanced technology adopted by only a few countries in the region, strengthening Iraq’s position on the international communications map.
She emphasized that these efforts not only aim to increase revenues, but also contribute to enhancing security and economic stability by developing Iraq’s digital infrastructure and maximizing the benefits of its strategic geographic location.
