An informed source revealed on Saturday (September 12, 2026) new and extremely dangerous details regarding the closure and withdrawal of licenses of three major exchange companies at Baghdad International Airport, namely (Al-Aswar, Al-Anamel, and Al-Qataf), confirming that the operation involved forging tickets and withdrawing millions of dollars to personal accounts.
The source said that the process of closing and withdrawing the licenses of the aforementioned companies came after the discovery of a designated place in one of the dark corners of the Baghdad International Airport garage, which was used to print and forge travel tickets (boarding passes) and to deceive the Central Bank into believing that the people who obtained the dollars were real travelers.
He added that these companies committed forgery and directly harmed Iraqi Airways, in addition to stealing and recording huge withdrawals of dollars ranging from 500,000 to one million dollars weekly for three consecutive months, noting that “the audit proved that most of the registered names belonged to the same companies, as the amounts allocated to passengers were exploited for personal purposes.”
The source indicated that these strict measures and regulatory decisions are aimed at achieving market stability and preventing unjustified increases in exchange rates.
