The British magazine MEED reported on Thursday that Iraq is experiencing a strong recovery in the projects market after government spending exceeded $30 billion on various projects, with real GDP expected to grow by 3.6% by 2026.
The magazine said in its report that Iraq’s economic performance appears positive as it enters 2026, driven by a recovery in the projects market and intensive government spending, while the UAE and Qatar lead the regional scene in the Arab countries.
She explained that the UAE is expected to record GDP growth of 5% during 2026, while Saudi Arabia expects growth of 4% for the years 2025 and 2026.
The report added that Morocco experienced strong growth of 4.4% in 2025, with the projects market stabilizing at $10 billion, while Egypt, despite projected growth of 4.5% in 2026, suffered from high inflation approaching 20% in 2025 and a fiscal deficit, which led to a 40% decline in project awards, settling below the long-term average at 30%.
MEED, a British economic magazine specializing in the Middle East, focuses on economic news and analysis, infrastructure projects and investment in the region, and is a reference for investors and decision-makers.
