The State of Law Coalition, led by Nouri al-Maliki, affirmed on Sunday its absolute commitment to its nominees for the Ministries of Interior and Higher Education and Scientific Research, while categorically denying any political agreements to alter or reshuffle the ministerial seats allocated to the coalition. Former MP Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leading figure in the coalition, told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The State of Law Coalition remains committed to its electoral and political entitlement to the Interior and Higher Education portfolios within the government formation,” revealing that “the official list of nominees has been sent to Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi.”
He added that “the coalition submitted three names for each ministerial portfolio to ensure flexibility in the selection process,” while indicating that “the primary and most likely candidates for the two positions are Lieutenant General Qasim Atta for the Ministry of Interior and Amer al-Khuza’i for the Ministry of Higher Education.”
Earlier, MP Othman al-Shibani, also from the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that the coalition had submitted the final list of names to the Prime Minister to resolve the issue of the two vacant ministries within the next few days.
