The Information Agency / Baghdad –
On Saturday, Ali al-Shaalan, a member of parliament from the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that the selection and appointment of deputy prime ministers has not yet been finalized. He indicated that its resolution is contingent upon reaching a political agreement among the blocs and influential forces.
Al-Shaalan told the Information Agency, “The issue of deputy prime ministers is still unresolved and is directly linked to the outcome of the dialogues and understandings between the political forces.” He explained that “approving these positions within the parliament requires achieving a political balance that aligns with existing agreements.”
He added that “the names of the candidates will not be put to a vote until agreements between the political blocs are finalized,” noting that “the primary objective of appointing deputy prime ministers should be to support the executive team and enhance the government’s ability to manage service and economic matters efficiently.”
MP Ahmed Dagher had previously revealed the reasons for the delay in completing the cabinet, explaining that disagreements over the deputy prime minister positions were behind the delay in resolving this issue. He described these positions as a “redundant layer” that adds nothing to the government.
