The State of Law Coalition bloc denied on Tuesday receiving any official proposal to extend the term of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s government for another year, describing the reports circulating in some media outlets as baseless “media noise.” Coalition MP Ibtisam al –
Hilali told Al-Maalomah news agency, “Talk of extending the current government’s term with limited powers is merely speculation among politicians and analysts in the media. The Coordination Framework has not received any official proposal in this regard.”
She added that “the forces within the Framework are working diligently to expedite the formation of the next government, as the current phase cannot tolerate any disruption or delay in establishing a fully empowered cabinet.” She noted that “the State of Law Coalition is currently focused on fulfilling constitutional obligations and forming a government capable of meeting the demands of this stage.”
Al-Hilali clarified that “the priority now is to end the political deadlock through legal channels, not through patchwork solutions that prolong the transitional period.”
A local media outlet reported that a source within the coordination framework stated they had received a proposal to end the political deadlock, which would extend the government’s term for one year while granting it specific powers.
