MP Shaker Mahmoud called on the Iraqi Parliament and political forces on Sunday to reject American military and political tutelage over Iraq, stressing the need to strengthen national decision-making independence and liberate the country from economic domination.
Mahmoud told the Information Agency that “the current stage requires a clear national stance from Parliament and political forces to reject any form of American tutelage or interference in Iraqi affairs,” explaining that “Iraq’s independence is incomplete while external influence continues to affect its political and security decisions.”
He added that “economic domination is one of the most prominent tools of pressure on Iraqi decision-making, which necessitates working to diversify economic partnerships and opening the door for various countries to invest and cooperate with Iraq, free from external dictates.”
Mahmoud pointed out that “Parliament and political forces are required to support the government’s steps aimed at strengthening sovereignty and economic and political independence in a way that preserves Iraq’s interests and puts an end to any interference that affects its national decision-making.”
