The Information Agency / Baghdad –
Qusay Mahbouba, a leader in the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, confirmed on Tuesday that most of the candidates proposed for prime minister, with the exception of Nouri al-Maliki and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, lack political weight. He indicated that the coordination framework was heading towards the formation of a weak government.
Mahbouba told the Information Agency, “Some forces within the framework had reservations about al-Maliki’s nomination,” explaining that “al-Sudani withdrew in favor of al-Maliki out of complete conviction and for the sake of Iraq’s interests, without any conditions.”
He added that “al-Maliki has the support of approximately 80 seats within the coordination framework,” considering that “the framework should officially announce his nomination and adhere to what was agreed upon.”
He clarified that “the aim of this approach is to avoid a compromise candidate,” indicating that “the decision to withdraw remains in effect until the end.”
