Mahbouba confirms Shafaq News report on Al-Badri... and questions the future of Al-Maliki and the frameworkShafaq News – Baghdad
Qusay Mahbouba, a leader in the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, confirmed what Shafaq News had published regarding the proposal of Basim al-Badri as a compromise candidate within the coordination framework for the position of the next Prime Minister, questioning the implications of this for Nouri al-Maliki’s political future and the unity of the framework.

Mahbouba said in a post on the “X” website, “Al-Maliki is giving way to Basim Al-Badri… Has Mr. Al-Maliki decided to retire politically? And leave the ranks of leaders? Has he decided that his giving way to Basim Al-Badri will be the straw that breaks the back of the Shiite coordination framework?”

Earlier, Shafaq News Agency reported that Basim al-Badri had become a compromise candidate within the coordination framework for the position of Prime Minister, with a meeting of the framework’s leaders expected soon to officially decide on the name.

Shafaq News quoted an informed source as saying that “Basim al-Badri is one of the candidates currently and his name will be put forward at the next meeting of the Coordination Framework,” and that “he has a higher chance as a compromise candidate within the framework.”

The source explained that Al-Badri holds the position of head of the Accountability and Justice Commission and belongs to the Dawa Party – Iraq Organization, and has connections inside and outside Iraq.

Amer Al-Fayez, a leader in the coordination framework and head of the “Tasmeem” parliamentary bloc, told Shafaq News Agency that “there are many names nominated for this position.”

This comes after the Speaker of Parliament called on the largest parliamentary bloc to nominate its candidate for Prime Minister within a maximum period of 15 days, based on Article 76 of the Constitution, following the election of the President of the Republic.
