On Tuesday, the leader in the coordination framework, Kazem Al-Hamami, confirmed the existence of a semi-political agreement to deal with the governorate as one constituency in the upcoming election law.
Al-Hamami said, in an interview with Al-Maalouma, that “the Sudanese government is actually obligated to hold the provincial elections, which we expect will be held on the scheduled date next November,” pointing out that “the movement to enact a new law with the change of the Commission will start within weeks.”
He added, “The current election law is marred by many negatives, which were monitored by most political forces, so there are different visions, the most prominent of which is that Iraq be an electoral district, but there are forces that reject such a proposal, but there is almost agreement on the principle that each governorate is one electoral district in next election law.
He pointed out that “talk about the possibility of postponing the elections is out of the question at the present time, and all the circumstances are preparing for the enactment of the new law in a way that addresses the negative aspects of the current law.”
The Sudanese government had set next November as the date for holding elections for the provincial councils.
