Informed Iraqi sources revealed on Sunday that the investigations with Iraqi Mohammed Baqir al-Saadi, who is linked to the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which are currently being conducted with him inside the United States, have led to important and dangerous information about internal networks linked to armed factions in Baghdad.
One of the sources told Shafaq News Agency about exciting details regarding Al-Saadi’s arrest and transfer to the United States, noting that Al-Saadi was found in possession of electronic devices, including mobile phones and a laptop computer, containing sensitive data related to communications and networks linked to armed groups inside Iraq.
The source added that “the ongoing investigations in the United States focused on analyzing the content of the seized devices, revealing the nature of the connections between some field elements and special groups that operate almost independently of the traditional leadership frameworks within some armed factions, and are directly linked to the (Quds Force) and through coordination with al-Saadi and some members of his network.”
Another source told Shafaq News Agency that several people connected to these networks have taken precautionary measures, including changing their places of residence, altering their means of communication, and redistributing their routes of movement within Iraq, out of fear that the scope of the investigations might widen or that field movements related to the case might be detected.
According to the source, a number of these people have left the country for different countries, including Iran, for fear of any assassination or arrest operation that may take place in the coming period, or prosecution by the Iraqi government, if Washington requests that from Baghdad.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced the arrest of Mohammed Baqer Dawood Al-Saadi 10 days ago, on charges of orchestrating 20 attacks described as “terrorist” in a number of European countries, in addition to planning attacks targeting Jewish institutions in the United States.
A report by the New York Post also revealed a plot to assassinate Ivanka Trump, the daughter of the current US president, noting that Al-Saadi was behind it, in revenge for the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in an American strike near Baghdad airport in 2020.
According to the American newspaper, Al-Saadi was carrying an Iraqi service passport, a document granted to state employees that allows for travel and movement within Iraqi airports, and obtaining it requires official government approvals.
Last week, the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades denied that al-Saadi belonged to them, but indicated that he “will be returned to his homeland with his head held high because he is a lover and supporter of the resistance.”
