Ali Hussein, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s organizational office in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, revealed on Sunday that a meeting is expected at the leadership level of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to discuss moving forward with activating the Kurdistan Parliament and the new regional government, stressing that efforts in this regard are nearing the achievement of their goals.
Hussein said during a press conference attended by Shafaq News Agency that “the two parties will soon hold a summit-level meeting,” noting that “efforts to form the government and reactivate parliament are moving towards achieving results.”
He added that “the risks facing the region affect all parties, which requires putting aside partisan interests and prioritizing the public interest.”
Regarding the government formation negotiations, Hussein revealed that “the New Generation Movement had previously submitted a proposal to the Democratic Party to form a government without the participation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, but the party rejected the proposal in order to ensure the participation of the Patriotic Union in the government.”
He added that “the Democratic Party did not deal with the National Union based solely on the number of its parliamentary seats, but at the same time it sees the need to respect the voters’ voices and the results produced by the elections.”
