Kurdish politician Saman Ali revealed on Friday that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Finance continues to steal its employees’ salaries despite the deteriorating living conditions. This comes amidst renewed calls for protests demanding employee rights and the prosecution of those involved in the theft.
Ali told the Information Agency, “The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Finance continues to steal its employees’ salaries under the pretext of saving them as deposits. However, this is part of a systematic theft operation facilitated by legal frameworks established by legislators affiliated with Barzani’s party. The stolen funds were not investigated by the previous government for reasons now well-known.”
He added, “The amount stolen from the region’s employees in just two months is approximately two trillion dinars, while the central government remains silent and has not taken any steps to hold Masoud Barzani’s government accountable.” He further stated that “the region’s employees have demanded that the central government stop sending their salaries to the regional government and instead receive them exclusively from Baghdad government banks to prevent manipulation of employee salaries.”
