Independent Kurdish opposition figure Didar Haval refuted claims of a US troop withdrawal on Friday, describing them as a media fabrication being promoted both domestically and internationally for transparently self-serving reasons.
Haval told the Information Agency, “Leaked information from within US troop positions in Erbil province, northern Iraq, indicates that the Marines have not withdrawn from their posts in Erbil. The Trump administration’s claims of a plan to withdraw US forces by the end of this month are baseless and merely a tactical redeployment under new pretexts.”
He added, “Statements from US commanders stationed at the Erbil base confirm that there is no plan or intention to withdraw troops. What has been raised regarding troop reductions is simply a repositioning of forces.” He emphasized that “new military reinforcements will arrive in Erbil within the next few days.”
