Kurdish opposition: Hundreds of trucks loaded with petroleum products are smuggled into Türkiye daily

Independent Kurdish politician Didar Haval revealed on Saturday the continued widespread smuggling of petroleum products from the Kurdistan Region to Turkey through unofficial border crossings, describing it as one of the largest smuggling operations the region has witnessed in recent years.
Haval told Al-Maalomah News Agency that hundreds of trucks loaded with petroleum products cross daily into Turkish territory through approximately 21 unofficial border crossings, before some of the fuel is then transported to other countries, including Afghanistan and Syria.
He added that the smuggling of petroleum products has escalated recently, exploiting the security tensions in the region, particularly after the Iranian missile attacks targeting sites opposed to Tehran.
He pointed out that “weak oversight at border crossings has contributed to the expansion of smuggling operations,” accusing the Kurdistan Regional Government, headed by Masoud Barzani, of sponsoring these operations.
