[Baghdad-Where] The
head of the Parliamentary Change Bloc in the House of Representatives, Yusef Muhammad, warned Thursday that some political blocs would risk the future of Iraq by insisting on not adopting the biometric card exclusively in the upcoming elections.
Muhammad said, in a statement. “Some political blocs wish to repeat the model of the failed and fraudulent elections that were held in previous years, especially the 2018 elections for the House of Representatives, describing this process as Iraq going into the unknown and directing its future to the point of no return and loss of confidence in the political system that results from those elections. Moot. ”
He added that “a proposal to amend the election law was submitted by the Change Bloc and more than sixty deputies, calling for legislative measures to be taken according to the Parliament’s internal system to amend the deficiencies in the law and to make the biometric card exclusively binding in identifying voters according to the electoral register.”
He stressed that “the adoption of the biometric system in the upcoming elections, the adoption of manual counting and sorting in addition to electronic counting and the use of devices to accelerate election results, will increase adequate guarantees for the electoral process.”
Muhammad warned against “excluding the biometric system in the upcoming elections while restricting the count and counting to electronic only, because it will lead to the repetition of errors, scandals and fraud that occurred in the results of the last elections, resulting in a loss of confidence in the electoral process and the political system that results from it completely and destabilization.”
He stressed, “All these attempts will lead to the voters’ reluctance to participate, the increase in popular resentment against the political system, and the perpetuation of popular protests against the political class currently in Parliament and the government.
