Kirkuk Governor Mohammed Saman Agha confirmed on Saturday that the contract with BP aims to develop the oil fields in the province and increase their production capacity, while revealing an upcoming visit by the Turkish Deputy Minister of Energy to Kirkuk.
Agha told Shafaq News Agency that “the Turkish Deputy Minister of Energy will visit Kirkuk soon to discuss projects for developing oil fields and energy sector infrastructure, as well as discussing mechanisms to enhance joint cooperation between Iraq and Turkey, particularly in the field of oil exports.”
He added that the visit represents an important step to support the partnership between the two countries in the energy sector, stressing that the Iraqi government is proceeding with its plans to develop the Kirkuk fields and increase their production capacity through contracting with BP.
The governor of Kirkuk explained that the goal of these efforts is to increase the amount of oil exported through Turkish territory to one million barrels per day, which will contribute to boosting revenues and supporting the Iraqi economy, as well as consolidating Kirkuk’s position as a major center for oil production and export.
It is worth noting that Kirkuk Governor Mohammed Saman Agha revealed to Shafaq News Agency yesterday, Friday, that Iraq and Turkey have agreed to postpone a fine imposed on Ankara in connection with the decision of the International Arbitration Authority to pay one and a half billion dollars to Baghdad.
