The Director General of the Legal Department, Hanan Munther Nassif, said in a statement that Al Furat News received a copy of, that “an arbitration decision was previously issued in 2007 condemning the Iraqi government and paying it an amount of 6,374.959.51 million euros, in addition to 406,329.51 thousand dinars and 300 thousand dollars to the company. German”.
And she added, “An appeal was submitted to the court in Paris, and a decision was issued in November 2016 in favor of Iraq to cancel the decision to pay compensation to the German company, and the ruling obligated the payment of 60,000 euros in favor of the Republic of Iraq.”
Nassif added, “The company appealed against the decision before the French Court of Cassation, but the appeal was rejected, and the case was closed.”
She pointed out that “the decision constitutes a victory for the Republic of Iraq and the Ministry of Justice, as the government avoided paying the amount of compensation, in addition to obligating the German company to pay an amount of 60,000 euros in favor of Iraq, and the amount was deposited in the account of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Paris for the purpose of transferring it to the Ministry of Finance.”
