The Supreme Judicial Council announced on Tuesday that the confessions of the Deputy Minister of Oil for Refining Affairs led to the arrest of the former governor of Salah al-Din, noting that the total amount of money seized in the case has exceeded 98 billion Iraqi dinars and 11 million US dollars.
A statement from the Council, received by Al-Maalomah News Agency, indicated that “the investigating judge of the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court announced new developments in the case of the detained Deputy Minister of Oil for Refining Affairs, Adnan al-Jumaili, and that his confessions during the investigations led to the arrest of the former governor of Salah al-Din and the current director of the province’s health department, Raed al-Jubouri.”
The statement explained that “the ongoing investigations and meticulous follow-up to track down the financial proceeds resulting from waste in projects linked to the accused and other parties involved in the case resulted in the seizure of large sums of cash in recent hours.”
It added that “the competent authorities were able to seize more than 67 billion dinars and one million US dollars, some of which was hidden inside the homes of several individuals, while the remainder was found buried underground at a depth of four meters, after excavation operations using specialized equipment.”
He noted that “the total amount of money seized in this case has risen to more than 98 billion Iraqi dinars and 11 million dollars, as part of the judicial procedures aimed at uncovering those involved and recovering public funds.”
