The Japanese Foreign Ministry welcomed on Friday the formation of the new government in Iraq headed by Ali al-Zaidi, stressing that the Japanese government will cooperate with al-Zaidi’s government for the stability of Iraq and the Middle East.
The ministry spokesman, Kitamura Toshihiro, said in a statement carried by Shafaq News Agency that “the Japanese government welcomes the formation of the new government in Iraq following the election of the Iraqi parliament last November.”
She added that “the Government of Japan strongly hopes that all Iraqi parties will work together under the new government to achieve greater stability and development in Iraq. In light of the current situation in the Middle East, Japan also expects Iraq to contribute to restoring stability in the region.”
She affirmed that “the Japanese government will cooperate with the al-Zaidi government to stabilize the Middle East and strengthen bilateral relations between Japan and Iraq.”
The Iraqi parliament voted on Thursday to grant confidence to the government of al-Zidi and its ministerial program, voting on 14 ministers, while postponing the vote on 9 other ministries until after the Eid al-Adha holiday, according to a parliamentary source who spoke to Shafaq News Agency.
