The Secretary – General of the Iraqi Turkmen Islamic Party, former MP Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, revealed on Sunday that achieving a quorum for the upcoming presidential election session would be impossible, suggesting it would likely be postponed until further notice for security and political reasons.
Jaafar told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The developments of the Zionist-American aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran have cast a shadow over the Iraqi scene and are among the main factors delaying the completion of constitutional requirements.”
He added, “The Kurdish-Kurdish dispute between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan remains at its peak, and neither side can impose its will on the other in this matter.” He pointed out that “influential political forces, including the State of Law Coalition, are convinced of the need to wait and see how regional conditions develop before proceeding with the session.”
