Former Minister Jassim Mohammed Jaafar confirmed on Monday that the appointment of four deputy prime ministers represents an unnecessary layer in state institutions, questioning the usefulness of creating these positions in light of the difficult economic conditions that Iraq is going through.
In an interview with Al-Maalomah, Jaafar stated that “appointing four deputy prime ministers is an unnecessary layer,” explaining that “those who express a lack of desire for a salary or office do not negate the burdens and expenses associated with these positions.”
He added that “this comes at a time when employee salaries and some financial entitlements are delayed,” questioning the actual need to create such positions and incur additional expenses under the current circumstances.
Jaafar emphasized that the current phase the country is going through does not require the creation of additional positions or an increase in government spending, especially given the talk of austerity measures and the delayed salaries of some employees and contract workers. He called for rationalizing spending and reducing unnecessary administrative layers.
He pointed out that the priority should be ensuring the regularity of employee salaries and securing financial entitlements on time, instead of burdening the state with new expenses by creating additional positions and allocations.
