Three Iraqi energy officials said on Wednesday that oil production has fallen sharply as the war in Iran continues, after oil tanks reached critically high levels and crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz became impossible.
Officials added, according to Reuters, that production at the main oil fields in southern Iraq has fallen by about 80 percent to about 800,000 barrels per day.
A document issued by the Basra Oil Company, obtained by Shafaq News Agency, showed a directive to the Rumaila field operating authority to reduce production, due to the rise in storage levels in the warehouses to critical levels.
According to the document, production and pumping from North Rumaila was requested to be reduced to 350,000 barrels per day instead of the current production, effective from 9:00 AM on March 24, 2026.
