Financial data issued by the Central Bank of Iraq showed that the volume of Iraq’s internal public debt rose to 106.072 trillion dinars at the end of June 2026, compared to 103.179 trillion dinars at the end of last May, an increase of 2.893 trillion dinars in one month.

According to data seen by Shafaq News Agency, domestic debt rose from 90.515 trillion dinars at the end of 2025 to 106.072 trillion dinars at the end of June 2026, an increase of 15.557 trillion dinars during the first six months of the year.

The internal debt was distributed as follows: the total claims of the Ministry of Finance in favor of the Central Bank, which rose to 67.499 trillion dinars at the end of June, compared to 63.199 trillion dinars at the end of May, while treasury transfers amounted to 8.742 trillion dinars, loans to 18.964 trillion dinars, and bonds to 10.867 trillion dinars.

The rise in domestic debt coincides with public expenditures reaching 46.697 trillion dinars by the end of May, compared to public revenues of 33.747 trillion dinars, reflecting the continued gap between revenues and expenditures, a gap that compels the government to rely on debt instruments to finance its financial needs.
