Iraqi oil reveals new details regarding the Kirkuk oil fields development project

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Oil, Salim Al-Rikabi, confirmed on Saturday that the current oil production volume is 320,000 barrels per day, and the project aims to increase crude oil production rates to reach a peak production rate of (420) thousand barrels/day.
Al-Rikabi said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “the current gas production volume is 255 million standard cubic feet per day, and the project aims to invest in associated gas to achieve peak gas production at a rate of (400) million standard cubic feet per day.”
He pointed out that “the most prominent projects that will be implemented by the British company BP include the rehabilitation and development of the Kirkuk fields, and the rehabilitation and expansion of gas facilities in the North Gas Company.”
Al-Rikabi added that “the infrastructure projects include the construction of a power station with a capacity of (400) megawatts, the absorption of local labor, the implementation of social benefit projects, and the development of the staff of the North Oil Company and the North Gas Company.”
He explained that “these projects will stop the continuous burning of the produced gas by making optimal use of it to provide the necessary fuel for power plants,” indicating that “the development of the fields will contribute to meeting the needs of the local market and increasing oil exports and the economic and environmental benefits for the country.”
He pointed out that “the project depends on the rehabilitation and development of oil and gas facilities, the expansion of North Gas Company facilities, and the rehabilitation of infrastructure and systems to reach the targeted production rates,” stressing that “future plans and discussions with BP include expanding cooperation and discussions on the broader exploration project in the Kirkuk region.”
The Ministry of Oil had announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with BP (British Petroleum) and ConocoPhillips (American) to study the potential and promising opportunities in the oil sector in Kirkuk Governorate.
The Kirkuk fields are among the oldest and largest oil fields in Iraq, containing major reservoirs including the Kirkuk, Bai Hassan, Jambur and Khabbaz fields. In recent years, they have faced technical and security challenges that have affected production levels, prompting the Ministry of Oil to seek the assistance of international companies to rehabilitate them and increase their production capacity.
