The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported on Sunday that Iraqi oil exports to the United States increased last week.

Shafaq News Agency followed up on the administration’s statistics, which showed that “the average US imports of crude oil during the past week from eight major countries amounted to 5.889 million barrels per day, a decrease of 502,000 barrels per day from the previous week, which amounted to 6.391 million barrels per day.”

She added that “Iraq’s oil exports to America reached 270,000 barrels per day, an increase of 157,000 barrels per day compared to the previous week, which recorded 113,000 barrels per day.”

She noted that “the largest US oil imports during the past week came from Canada at a rate of 3.927 million barrels per day, followed by Saudi Arabia at 605,000 barrels per day, then Venezuela at an average of 549,000 barrels per day, and Mexico at a rate of 227,000 barrels per day.”

According to the data, US imports from Brazil amounted to 164,000 barrels per day, from Colombia 88,000 barrels per day, and from Nigeria 59,000 barrels per day, while no imports were recorded from Ecuador or Libya.

The United States imports most of its crude oil and derivatives from these major countries, with its daily consumption estimated at about 20 million barrels, making it the world’s largest consumer of oil.

Iraq relies on shipping its crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz to Asian markets, while exports to Europe and America are transported via pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean Sea.

Greece, Spain and Italy are among the most prominent European markets for Iraqi crude, with about 20% of Iraq’s exports going to Europe, compared to about 10% to the United States.
