An informed source revealed on Thursday that work on the “56-inch” crude oil pipeline (Basra-Haditha) is continuing at an increasing pace to complete it as quickly as possible, with the aim of overcoming any future fuel crisis, in conjunction with the confirmation by the manufacturer of some parts of the pipeline to accelerate work and complete the agreements concluded with it.
A source told Shafaq News Agency that the current government has given great importance to the Basra-Haditha oil pipeline project for transporting crude oil, as it constitutes an important link that ensures the transport of crude oil to the refineries in the south and center to supply them, in addition to reducing dependence on the Strait of Hormuz by linking the southern fields to the three export outlets in Jordan, Banias in Syria and Ceyhan in Türkiye.
He added that a delegation from the Ministry of Oil, headed by the Director General of the Oil Projects Company and a number of ministry officials concerned with implementing the project, visited Germany last month and held important meetings with the manufacturer of the “billet” materials to determine the mechanism for shipping the materials for the “56-inch” crude oil pipeline (Basra – Haditha) in light of the current crisis.
The source indicated that part of the manufactured materials were completed at the factory, while emphasizing the continuation of manufacturing the remaining plates and finding quick and appropriate solutions for shipping them to Iraq, to complete the construction of the pipeline, which forms a strategic axis for transporting fuel away from areas of conflict or military strife.
He confirmed that work on the oil pipeline project is progressing at an increasing pace and with specialized Iraqi staff.
The Basra-Haditha pipeline project is a strategic Iraqi pipeline under construction, extending over 600 kilometers in length, with a capacity exceeding 2.25 million barrels per day.
