The Ministry of Electricity announced on Saturday the resumption of Iranian gas flow to Iraq, while confirming the stability of electricity supply at 14,000 megawatts.
Ahmed Musa Al-Abadi, the ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the electricity system is witnessing a state of planned operational stability, according to careful field monitoring of the performance of production stations, transmission lines and networks.
Al-Abadi pointed to the resumption of Iranian gas pumping to the system at a rate of 5 million cubic meters per day, explaining that the ministry succeeded in containing and minimizing the immediate challenges that accompanied the previous supply stoppage, through managing the available alternatives, which included maneuvering with national gas and high-level coordination with the Ministry of Oil to secure alternative fuel, which contributed to maintaining production stability at about 14,000 megawatts.
He pointed out that the ministry did not stop at the limits of immediate solutions, but is moving forward with the implementation of its vital projects, most notably the combined cycle projects and the liquefied gas platform in Khor Al-Zubair, as well as completing the electrical interconnection projects with neighboring countries.
He added that these strategic paths are proceeding according to fixed timetables and have not been affected by the current circumstances, stressing the continued work to enhance the capabilities of the national network and ensure the best levels of service for citizens in all governorates of the country.
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced last Wednesday that Iranian gas supplies had completely stopped, resulting in a loss of more than 3,000 megawatts of production capacity, following the targeting of the “largest and most important” gas facility in Iran.
Last week, Iran’s South Pars gas field and oil facilities in Asaluyeh were attacked by the US and Israel, targeting a gas processing facility in what Tel Aviv described as a “promised escalation.”
The South Pars field is the largest natural gas field in Iran, located in Bushehr province. It also represents the Iranian part of the world’s largest offshore gas field, which Tehran shares with Qatar in the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
