The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Wednesday that Iranian gas supplies had completely stopped, resulting in a loss of more than 3,000 megawatts of production capacity, following the targeting of the “largest and most important” gas facility in Iran.

Ministry spokesman Ahmed Musa al-Abadi told Shafaq News Agency that “the flow of Iranian gas to Iraq has stopped completely,” explaining that supplies had reached 19 million before dropping to zero.

He added that the cessation of pumping has significantly affected the electricity system, causing a loss of more than 3,000 megawatts of power.

Iran’s South Pars gas field and oil facilities in Asaluyeh were attacked by the US and Israel, targeting a gas processing facility in what Tel Aviv described as a “promised escalation.”

According to Israeli sources, the strike is the first targeting of economic infrastructure in Iran, and was carried out with the coordination and approval of the United States, amid a lack of official details about the extent of the damage.

The governor of Asaluyeh, Iran, confirmed that several sections of the South Pars gas field were hit by “Zionist-American” projectiles, while also asserting that the situation is under control, firefighting teams are working to extinguish the fire in the Pars field, and there are no reports of injuries.

The South Pars field is the largest natural gas field in Iran, located in Bushehr province. It also represents the Iranian part of the world’s largest offshore gas field, which Tehran shares with Qatar in the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
