Iraq remains absent… 20 countries hold more than $100 billion in US Treasury bonds

Data from the US Treasury Department for June 2026 showed that 20 countries had exceeded the $100 billion mark in holdings of US Treasury bonds, bills, and securities, while Iraq remained absent from the list.
Shafaq News Agency reviewed the data released on Tuesday, which showed Japan topping the list with holdings of $1.1167 trillion, followed by the United Kingdom with $939.9 billion, and then China with $633.4 billion.
The list included two Arab countries: Saudi Arabia with $142.5 billion and the United Arab Emirates with $114.8 billion, in addition to Israel with $110.9 billion.
The list also included Belgium, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg, France, Ireland, Taiwan, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Norway, India, Brazil and South Korea.
Foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds, bills and securities totaled $9.299 trillion at the end of June 2026, compared to $9.3711 trillion in May.
Data from the US Treasury Department for April 2026 showed that Iraq continued to be absent from the list of the largest foreign holders of US Treasury bonds, while Saudi Arabia’s holdings at that time amounted to $140.1 billion, and the UAE’s to $112.5 billion.
