The Iraqi Ministry of Finance announced on Saturday that the Al-Walid border customs center received the first international land transit shipment under the global (TIR) system, coming from Syria and heading to the State of Kuwait via the Safwan border crossing.

The ministry explained in a statement that the customs staff completed the inspection and verification procedures for seals and documents with high flexibility within the customs yards, in preparation for their crossing into Iraqi territory in accordance with the applicable regulations, which contributes to accelerating trade and reducing costs and time.

The statement considered this achievement a strategic step towards activating international transport corridors and trade links between neighboring countries, in line with the ministry’s plans for automation and comprehensive modernization of border crossings.

In contrast, the Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs announced the passage of a new transit shipment through the Al-Yarubiyah border crossing, coming from Turkish territory and heading to Iraq.

The authority confirmed that the passage of the shipment comes within the efforts to enhance regional trade exchange and revitalize land transport routes between the countries of the region, which contributes to supporting shipping and transit and enhances the importance of the Al-Yarubiyah port as a vital hub in regional transit traffic.

She noted that the port is currently witnessing increased commercial activity, whether in terms of transit trucks, trade exchange, or passenger traffic, in conjunction with the implementation of regulatory and service procedures to facilitate entry and exit processes and expedite the completion of customs and logistical transactions.

She explained that the staff working at the port are continuing their efforts to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and to provide the necessary facilities for transport companies, traders and travelers, which will positively impact the revitalization of economic activity and transport across Syrian territory.
