The Director of the Land Transport Department of the Technical Department at the Ministry of Transport, Israa Hanoun, confirmed on Friday that Iraq has made great progress in implementing the international TIR (Transportation Infrastructure) system for cross-border transport.
Hanoon explained, in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that the system has been fully operational in the country, as seven new international routes have been opened across Iraqi territory during the past eight months, stressing that these routes have already witnessed the implementation of more than (1000) international cargo transport operations during that short period.
She noted that the continued adoption of the TIR system for the movement of goods in transit through Iraqi territory effectively contributes to enhancing the efficiency and security of international trade, as well as consolidating Iraq’s position as a vital regional logistics corridor linking global trade routes.
Iraq had previously announced its official accession to the technically integrated TIR system and the activation of international cross-border transport operations in partnership with the International Road Transport Union, with the aim of simplifying customs procedures at border crossings and facilitating the movement of trucks.
