The Iraqi Presidency stated that President Nizar Amidi discussed with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who is visiting Baghdad, the latest developments on the regional and international scenes. It added that the President affirmed Iraq’s firm position and support for all efforts to end conflicts and resolve crises in the region, and stressed that Iraq clearly stands by any measures that contribute to strengthening regional peace and preserving the sovereignty and independence of states.
The Iraqi president also stressed the importance of prioritizing wisdom and peaceful solutions in resolving conflicts, preserving the security and sovereignty of nations, and avoiding escalation. The official news agency also reported that the Speaker of Parliament emphasized “the importance of activating friendship committees, strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, and expanding cooperation to serve the interests of the two neighboring peoples.”
He also pointed out that “Iraq is one of the countries most affected by the conditions and developments in the region,” calling for “taking into account the nature of the relations that bind Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and for Iraq to have special consideration regarding the export of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, in a way that preserves its economic interests.”
In turn, the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council expressed his “thanks and appreciation, on behalf of the Shura Council, the government and the Iranian people, to Iraq,” stressing “his country’s keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially trade and economic fields.”
