Iraq continues construction work on the Grand Faw Port

Despite the security conditions surrounding the region, which Iraq is also experiencing, the Ministry of Transport announced that work on the Grand Faw Port project is progressing steadily and according to the pre-set schedules, stressing that the current completion rates reflect a clear commitment to implementing this strategic project despite all those conditions.
The director of the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah: “The ministry’s efforts are not limited to construction work only, but also include comprehensive preparation for the operational phase, through the development of detailed mechanisms for docking ships, and organizing loading and unloading operations.”
He added that the work also includes preparing accurate economic operating models that ensure the best possible returns, while studying contracting formulas with specialized international companies to participate in its management and operation, noting that work is proceeding at a high pace despite the security challenges in the region, to complete all the requirements for actual operation according to a comprehensive vision that combines the technical and economic aspects.
Al-Safi stated that the current stage represents a pivotal stage, as work is underway to develop an integrated system for managing port operations in accordance with the latest approved international standards, which will ensure the smooth flow of work and raise the level of performance. He emphasized that the ministry pays great attention to selecting operating partners from leading international companies with extensive experience in managing major ports.
He stated that the Grand Faw Port is one of the most important strategic projects in Iraq, due to its pivotal role in supporting the national economy and enhancing the country’s position as an important logistics center in the region, stressing the project’s significant contribution to revitalizing regional and international trade and opening new horizons for investment and trade exchange.
