Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair al-Abadi called on Wednesday for international companies working on developing oil and gas fields in Iraq to compete for the development of gas fields in the western region of the country.
This came during his attendance and sponsorship of the World Oil Companies Forum held at the Ministry of Oil building in the capital, Baghdad, as reported by Shafaq News Agency.
In his opening remarks at the forum, the minister stated that companies operating in Iraq are not considered contractors but partners, and that they work together to implement the terms of contracts through cooperation and to resolve problems through discussions and deliberations. He explained that the government has developed a strategy focused on increasing production, improving its specifications, providing an investment environment, and developing the infrastructure of oil facilities.
Al-Abadi also noted the Prime Minister’s emphasis on the issue of tender costs, especially those with inflated prices, to be reviewed together, particularly in light of the current global situation, as well as adopting the principle of quality and integrated specifications within the approved standards, in addition to other work costs, calling on international companies to submit applications to receive their dues through the Oil Marketing Company, in light of the current easing of tensions regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
