The ministry said in a statement, which was received by Shafaq News Agency, that the competent Iraqi authorities received initial information about Saudi Arabia being targeted by three drones, noting that they have begun verification and investigation procedures to determine the circumstances of the incident.
She added that Iraqi air defense systems and optical equipment “did not detect any information” regarding the drones, calling on the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia to cooperate and exchange relevant information to obtain accurate information that enhances security and stability in both countries.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry affirmed Baghdad’s commitment to its firm position based on respecting the security and sovereignty of brotherly countries, and rejecting any actions that would threaten their stability or harm fraternal relations with them.
The ministry stressed Iraq’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Saudi Arabia in a way that enhances the security and stability of the region and serves the common interests of the two countries.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday evening that it had intercepted and destroyed three drones after they entered the Kingdom’s airspace coming from Iraqi airspace, vowing to take the necessary operational measures to respond at the appropriate time and place.
Saudi Arabia summoned the Iraqi ambassador on April 12, 2026, to protest the attacks launched from Iraqi territory.
It is worth noting that Iraqi armed factions had announced their entry into the war on the side of Iran since its beginning in late February/January.
