Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Tuesday that he had instructed the Foreign Minister to hold talks with the American side following requests from “friendly governments” in the region. Pezeshkian stated in remarks carried by Iranian media that he had “instructed Araqchi to prepare for talks with Washington if an atmosphere prevails without threats and unreasonable expectations.”
He added, “My instructions to the Foreign Minister regarding negotiations with Washington came in light of requests from friendly governments in the region.” He also affirmed, “We will conduct negotiations with the United States within the framework of our national interests.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to meet with Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Wittkopf next Friday in Istanbul, after Wittkopf concludes a visit to Israel that he will begin today to hold talks with Netanyahu and Israeli security officials in preparation for talks with Iran.
