Iranian committee: 120 Iraqi MPs called for Khamenei’s funeral in Iraq

The secretary of the National Committee for the Funeral of the Late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, revealed on Thursday that 120 members of the Iraqi parliament had sent letters calling for the funeral ceremonies for Khamenei to be held in Iraq, coinciding with official preparations to organize a reception ceremony in which senior Iraqi officials would participate.
In a televised interview, quoted by Iran’s Al-Alam TV, Pourjamshidian said that the official reception ceremony for Khamenei’s body and his family members will be held at either Baghdad or Najaf airport, in the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister and a number of officials. He indicated that an Iraqi committee was formed under the supervision of the Prime Minister to oversee the arrangements, describing the level of preparations as “very high.”
He added that more than one million people had registered to participate in the funeral ceremonies inside Iran, noting that 120 Iraqi MPs had sent letters calling for the funeral to be held in Iraq.
He explained that officials of the holy shrines, the Arbaeen Committee, and the religious authority in Iraq expressed their desire to participate in the funeral ceremonies, noting that the approval of Khamenei’s family and the leadership of the Iranian revolution came from the desire of the deceased, who, according to him, wished to visit the cities of Karbala and Najaf.
Pourjamshidian noted that officials from more than 45 countries, including heads of state and government, foreign ministers and religious figures, have announced their participation in the funeral ceremonies scheduled to be held on Friday in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
