Shafaq News/ The Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, on Monday, put forward several scenarios for the parliament session scheduled for next Saturday, to elect a new president of the republic, while noting that the most complex of these scenarios is for parliament to dissolve itself.
The House of Representatives is scheduled to hold a session, scheduled for next Saturday, to vote on choosing a new President of the Republic, amid a state of anxiety and stalemate surrounding the political negotiations during the past week, which threatens the possibility of achieving a quorum for holding them.
The representative of the bloc, Majed Shankali, told Shafak News Agency, “The decision of the Federal Court says for a short period, and no one can determine that period,” noting that “from a political and moral point of view, the House of Representatives must proceed with the constitutional timings in choosing the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.” .
Shankali added, “The election of the president of the republic and the formation of the government will be very soon during the next two weeks, and if the position of the president of the republic is not resolved, there will be no other solution except by dissolving the parliament exclusively, and nothing else is in the hands of the Federal Court or any other authority.”
He continued, “If the House of Representatives does not agree and achieve a quorum in next Saturday’s session, it may be postponed to two or three days, but the election of the President of the Republic will not last more than a week.”
Earlier today, the Wisdom Movement, led by Ammar al-Hakim, warned of several scenarios, including “political chaos” and going towards early elections, in the event that no meeting takes place between the Shiite coordination framework and the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, during the next 48 hours.
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, (one of the poles of the Triple Alliance) had called earlier today, the “independent” Iraqi parliament members to join him in order to ensure a quorum for the voting session on the President of the Republic, and not to go with the blocking third of Parliament.
