On Thursday, Abdul Samad al-Zarkoushi, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed that there is a trend toward supporting the option of the Prime Minister directly selecting security ministers, for several reasons.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Zarkoushi said, “The Prime Minister, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, possesses the constitutional authority to manage security files.” He explained that “there is currently a trend to support the Prime Minister directly selecting security ministers, particularly for the Ministries of Interior and Defense.”
He added that “the Prime Minister’s selection of security ministers comes within an objective framework, given that these portfolios are considered sensitive and important,” noting “the necessity of selecting individuals who possess competence, experience, integrity, and political independence.”
Al-Zarkoushi pointed out that “the coming weeks will witness the finalization of nominations for the security portfolios,” indicating that “the general trend is toward selecting individuals capable of managing these files with high efficiency.”
