Khalid Walid, a member of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, confirmed today, Sunday, that the government’s preoccupation with a number of current issues has delayed the completion of the cabinet, indicating that there are no current signs of holding a session to vote on the vacant ministries.
Walid told Al-Maalomah that “the issue of completing the government cabinet is no longer a priority in light of the political controversy and the accumulated issues that occupy the general scene in the country,” noting that “the House of Representatives is facing several challenges, most notably the financial crisis and the demonstrations that the country is witnessing to demand appointments and securing financial entitlements.”
He added that “talk about restricting weapons also had an impact on delaying the completion of the cabinet, in addition to the financial crisis that the country is going through, which has directly affected the performance of state institutions,” noting that “the work of the ministries is not currently being carried out in full due to the lack of approval of the budget, which has caused the file of completing the cabinet to witness a clear lull without there being any real government action to resolve the remaining ministries.”
Walid explained that “most political blocs have decided on their candidates for the vacant ministries, with an initial agreement to proceed with voting on the remainder of the cabinet, but the government’s preoccupation with other issues has prevented the completion of the process so far.”
He pointed out that “the government’s continued focus on pursuing economic issues, coupled with the escalating discussions surrounding the issue of weapons control, could lead to a delay in finalizing the cabinet until after September 30th. This would leave several ministries under caretaker administrations and negatively impact the effectiveness of government operations.”
