Gas station owners appeal to Al-Zaydi: We are subjected to the biggest ongoing “theft” on a daily basis

Fuel station investors in Iraq on Saturday called on Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi to intervene urgently to stop what they described as the “biggest theft” that continues daily.
In a statement addressed to the Prime Minister and received by Shafaq News Agency, investors said that when stations purchase a tanker load of 36,000 liters from the Oil Products Distribution Company, they receive a smaller quantity ranging between 35,000 and 35,500 liters, which leads to a shortage in supply that exposes stations to significant losses.
They added that if the shortage is not addressed, the oil products distribution company, through its committees, confirms the shortage, considers it a violation, and fines the station four times the amount, even though the shortage is in the quantity supplied by the company, considering that this represents “injustice and unfairness” to the investors.
The investors demanded that the owners of gas stations reinstate the standard system instead of the normal system, as it is a globally approved system. They also called for setting a date for a special meeting with the owners of gas stations to save the joint sector from “collapse”.
Since late May, Baghdad and a number of provinces have witnessed a shortage of “regular and improved” gasoline that lasted for about a week, before gas stations saw a relative improvement in fuel supply.
However, the majority of stations still lack improved gasoline, despite repeated assurances from the oil products distribution company that there is no crisis in the supply of petroleum products.
